HND in Interior Design and Interior Architecture. Restaurant Design By Jana Novakova   After many years of being active as an employee in various sectors such as the pharmaceuticals industry, telecommunications, real estates and private investments sector, I was ready to embrace a career of my own as a private entrepreneur, so I naturally opted to improve my education in the field where I had already operated and I obtained a bachelor’s degree and later an MBA in management and set up my own real estates company. Somehow I was still not satisfied and found more pleasure in advising my clients how to home stage their homes prior to selling them or how to redecorate a home they had just bought. So when I came across The Design Ecademy. I decide to follow my instinct and explore my more creative side and better my technical expertise. After cca 3 years during which I was able to combine studies and work, I have now obtained a diploma in HND stage 2 in Interior design & Architecture and I have expanded my company to provide advice to my clients ranging from the decoration of one single room to the planning of grass root villas. I am now working on setting up a commerce platform to market specific design objects and classics. Thank you The Design Ecademy for allowing me to live my dream...

I chose to study Interior Design after a career assessment at the age of 44. Being a midlife professional, I needed to start a new career which I would not only have the skills for, but also, and more importantly, a natural feel and passion for. Because Interior Design requires creativity as well as, communication and project management skills it matches quite well my profile: I have been a Media researcher and project manager for more than fifteen years, but I have been attracted by drawing and aesthetics since I was a child. Disappointed by what the French education system has to offer regarding adult continuous education, particularly in the Interior Design domain, I did some research about international distance learning programs. Because I am the mother of 3 kids and because of the international career of my husband, I needed a school which offered flexibility and which diplomas would be recognized abroad, particularly in the USA, where I live now. The Design Ecademy fulfilled all these requirements and I enrolled in their online program in Interior Design in June 2011. I got my Diploma in Interior Design &Decoration (stage 1 of the HND) with Distinction in November 2013. Today I continue studying on the HND and will hopefully graduate by the end of 2014. My goal is to start earning the NCIDQ certificate (which is required for professional registration in most US states) and in the meantime work for a hospitality design firm on hotel restaurant or retail store projects. Distance learning has its challenges: I can’t deny that I have sometimes felt a bit alone! Besides, you must feel confident with computing and the use of digital technologies. However, tutors at The Design Ecademy are always available and it is The Design Ecademy’s objective to create a real student community through the launch of their Intranet and Facebook page. Besides, the courses as well as the assignments are very pragmatic and profession-oriented. So, I am always busy and my enthusiasm for interior design is growing as I am studying! Lastly, The Design Ecademy is an ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) accredited school. I have therefore been able to become a Student Member ASID and over the last months, I have had the opportunity to meet with students from other US schools as well as with American licensed professionals. Next month, I will participate to my first ASID Student competition ! Wish me good luck! My name is James Lambrou, I am 32 and I was a permanent resident in the UK (London) for 8 years. I had always been interested in design throughout my life. My passion had me accepted into a design college in Australia, to study Industrial Design however after much thought and deliberation, I instead decided to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Management/Marketing. I pursued this career for a number of years, both in Australia and the UK, before accepting a job working in the management team of a cable TV Channel. Here, I found my way into the more creative side of the industry, getting involved in production allowing me to release some creative energy. I continued my career in TV working for a major broadcaster. Throughout this time, I continued to explore my love for interior design, offering myself taught knowledge to friends and family, designing a number of homes. This is when I knew that I was in the wrong profession. I resigned shortly after and studied full time on the HND in Interior Design, taking on odd jobs in interior retail and design. After completing my course I started a successful residential interior design in South East London called Begin Design. Then I returned home to Melbourne, Australia and started a new interior design company with a business partner. We handle residential and commercial interior design projects and we have been featured in some of Australia’s leaving publications. It has been the most challenging few years but the most rewarding.  “Being paid for something you truly have a passion for is...

“This has obviously been very satisfying for me as I got the chance to study interior architecture at my own pace.” This course, being offered as home study, is a good alternative for those who can’t afford to study full time. Having a full time and part time job, I’ve managed to complete the 2nd year HND in a year and a half, achieving a very good result whilst juggling work at the same time. This has obviously been very satisfying for me as I got the chance to study interior architecture at my own pace. I have definitely enjoyed doing this course, and learned a lot of valuable information that can be applied once working in the industry such as working with contrators, presenting one’s work etc. My tutor was always there when I needed to ask questions, or to clear any difficulties while doing assignments, I will keep studying interior design further up. “Everyone enjoys being pleasantly surprised; such was the case when I discovered The Design Ecademy . Not only is this school fully recognized but it also provides top quality instructors. When I enrolled in TDE I was hoping to receive helpful criticism what I got was one on one attention to my weaknesses and encouragement on my strong points. The material is extremely well laid out and up to date with the latest design innovations. It is written for people with creative minds and so there are no fill in the blank answers or just check a b or c. You are expected to use your individual creative energy and to think outside the box. If you are looking to find an authentic and fully recognized education in design then I would suggest you enroll with The Design Ecademy . However high your expectations are I assure you that you will not be disappointed.” Emily...

“It has given me the confidence to seize every opportunity that comes before me.” My name is Ann Slattery, I am 45 years of age and since I was 14 years old I have had a great interest in fashion and dressmaking.  I spent 15 years making wedding dresses and doing alterations on clothes for local boutiques. I felt I needed to expand what I was doing and knew I needed a ‘qualification on paper’. After exhausting nearly every website I came across the Image and Fashion Styling course. After speaking with one of their course advisors I applied in the full knowledge that it was going to be an intensive course. What a life changing course it was! I started as a very nervous student but with a tutor who was fantastic at confidence building. I have to say I blossomed as the months went by. I learned so much not just about fashion but also about colour, body analysis, vintage fashions, make-up and hair. It was such a learning curve for everyone, some of whom may have thought initially that it was just fashion, fashion, and fashion! During the course I was approached by a stylist to make some jackets for Colette Fitzpatrick of TV3 news to wear reading the news. I have also spent 4 days as a dresser for Trinny and Susannah at their ‘Style in the City’ event. I initially assisted with the fittings and selection of the outfits. I then worked closely with the production team on rehearsals and ultimately dressed a model an average of 8 times in 25 minutes during the event. Over the course of 4 days we hosted 15 shows. I withstood the pressure and thrived on the atmosphere. I have no doubt that the qualification on my CV helped enormously to get this work. I have since applied for work on ‘The Clothes Show’ live in Birmingham and they were impressed with my qualifications. My final project gained me an overall Distinction grade which I was thrilled with. I feel now that the world is my oyster and it is all thanks to this course. I would highly recommend it. It’s hard work but very well worth...

I enjoyed working in the industry so much that I decided to further my knowledge but was worried about the long hours I would have to endure if I studied and worked at the same time. After some research, I found that when doing any course online with The Design Ecademy, you can study at your own pace and complete your assignment in the time frame that suit your lifestyle and existing work load. Anyway, this course is so interesting that you will always have time for it!! Even with my basic knowledge of lighting, I still found the course to be interesting, informative and challenging. Tutors always replied promptly to help me if I had problem, which was quite often as English is my second language . I did the best I could and it paid off; Distinction in my final project… Since I completed my courses, I’m still working for Metalite Ltd as a sales representation but now, also, as a Lighting Designer. I have completed two projects on my own since finishing my course and am busy with my third and largest project at the moment. This course taught me exactly what I needed to know to further my career as a Lighting Designer and I encourage anyone thinking about doing a Lighting Design Certificate to enroll now with The Design Ecademy without hesitation”. “My passion for lighting started when I got a position as sales representative in my Father’s company; Metalite Ltd, which is a custom lighting...

I used to work as a systems analyst for Diageo Ireland, this entailed working with and maintaining a computer package that planned the production of Diageo’s products. It was a complex system that needed constant monitoring, so I was pretty much a computer “geek”. Before that I worked for Colgate Palmolive as a Logistics Planner, in short I ensured that all the products for the Irish market were at the agreed levels needed to maintain Colgate’s customers. While working for Diageo Ireland, I finally got around to starting an interior design course. I did some research and felt that this interior design course offered me the accreditation and flexibility that I wanted. I sent in my first assignment, received very helpful feedback and was hooked from that moment on. Before I even finished the course I knew it was the area I wanted to work in and I learnt so much from the course. At last I had found what I was looking for! I made the scary decision to start working for myself. It was a big jump, going from a salary every month to nothing initially but I haven’t looked back and work is flying in. It’s great! There are up’s and down’s no doubt, but if you are prepared to work hard then there are no limits to what can be achieved. “Making the decision to take this course has offered me a completely new career, I am finally working doing something I love. I highly recommend...

After ten years of working in the travel industry I was looking for a new challenge allowing me to combine my past professional experience and my fondness for fashion and style. The Image and Fashion Styling course helped me towards that goal by giving me the opportunity to learn and improve skills on a large spectrum of subjects, all of them covering the various aspects of styling. The course is thorough and very interesting. The tutor really supports you with useful advice and comments and encourages you to give your best, whilst being very objective on your work. I am now in the process of setting up my own company of Personal Concierge Services, specialising in personal shopping and image consultancy. I feel more confident now to take up this challenge thanks to this course that introduced me into the fantastic work of styling. “I really enjoyed the...
